Claims about achieving longevity have undergone many researches and studies to be accepted or to be rejected. Many aimed to discover the secrets of the surviving centenarians since some also wanted to be one.

The major principles that humans can control the duration of their life expectancy are circumstances and lifestyle. Genetic makeup is also a factor to determine longevity but this cannot be controlled since you were born with these structures of DNA and you will bear it all through your life.

Circumstances are always present to either bring a new life or to take one. Famine, war, and accidents can shorten any individual’s life. You may not be able to avoid unfortunately circumstances in some cases but you can try to prevent these instances that cause untimely death.

The genetic makeup of an individual determines characteristics like hair color, structure of the body and even longevity rate. The tendency of a disease that an individual can possess is due to the existing disease that the previous generations acquired.

Despite this, you can still alter your genetic makeup due to technological advancements today but this is not preferable. One thing that you can do is to extend your life as long as possible by adopting changes.

By changes, I mean involving yourself in a lifestyle that took hold of a longer life expectancy. If your body is well taken care of it allows you to have a longer life but when you abuse it, expect it to fall apart.

Be keen to what you ingest so as to be aware of the effects of these foods and substances to your body and as to how it would help the body to operate well.

Cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking can bring harmful substances to the body that can create long-term damage and that it can tear the cells and tissues of the body.

Harmful fats present in processed foods especially trans-fats (newer processed fats) can cause heart diseases and can also trigger cancer should be avoided. Eating “natural foods” is of utmost importance for longer life.

These will decrease the inclination of overeating therefore reducing the possibility of chronic diseases and the stress that your bones and joints can suffer because of the increase in weight.

Maintaining your body active and your muscles tone can prevent bone diseases and ailments. Exercising regularly allows you to protect not just your bones, joints and muscles but your heart and lungs as well against any disorder which in turn adds up to the length of your life expectancy.

The most important of all is to control what you value and to maintain a sense of purpose. This is the root of all these because if you did not establish your purpose in life and has not gained control over what you value the most, everything will just break into pieces.

You cannot do each one of these without the desire to take a hold your objective.
