Arizona Immigration Law – Round One

An attempt to enact a new law in the state of Arizona that the state government deems necessary to protect its citizens has met with opposition from the federal government. The law pertains to illegal immigrants that are crossing the borders from Mexico into Arizona.
Those that are for the new immigration law point to the fact that criminal activities and murders are increasing as a direct result in the increase of illegals in the state. They also point to the education and medical systems being overly taxed by these people causing higher costs and hardships for those who are here legally and pay taxes.
The anti immigration law protesters are claiming that this law is nothing more than racial profiling and denies those freedoms that are constitutionally given to the citizens of the United States. They also oppose the necessity of carrying of a green card to identify an individual as a legal immigrant.
There are many pros and cons in this controversial issue. Some of the more important views of the issue are employment of legal citizens verses illegal immigrants. Hiring of illegal immigrants not only costs our government tax revenue from wages but it also keeps wages low on a sector of our population that does menial labor work.
The President of Mexico is a verbal opponent to the Arizona law. His input and even his opinion on the matter seems unusual since his own government has very strict laws and consequences for those who break the Mexican immigration laws.
For now the U.S. District Court of Arizona has ruled that a large part of the law is unconstitutional and has stricken those excerpts from the law. Arizona in its plight to protect their citizens and secure its borders has vowed to appeal this decision all the way to the Supreme court.
Whether you are for or against this immigration law it is obvious that something must be done to stem the tide of illegals in our country. There are solutions to this problem that can be agreed upon by both sides. Having freedom of speech gives both sides an opportunity to articulate their concerns and by doing so a reasonable and workable resolution can be attained.
