Karen and Mike Sliwa are two former high school teachers who decided to get off the treadmill of consumption and return to the road of durability. After participating in the education system for a combined two decades these educators felt it was time to become students of life. Since life depends on the natural world Karen and Mike thought it may be a good idea to learn how to live and thrive without such a large carbon footprint.
Our goal is simply to learn the necessary skills in order to consume less and connect more. Connect more with people and the natural world is where we hope this road leads. We will become part of the HelpX and Couchsurfing communities in order to achieve our goal. Eventually we will pare down our belongings to our backpacks.
Buckle up it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

Hi-Mike you spoke to the County yesterday and your talk was refreshing. You awoke a little of the hippy rebel yell and I would like to track how you and your wife are doing. Thanks for all you do and say-best of luck also.Enjoy -

Wow Sliwa ! That’s really all I have to say. The work you and your husband are doing is inspirational and admirable. There isn’t many people I know that can just decide to pick up and start over like you did. I hope everything continues to go well ! Love you Sliwa. Thanks for being such a free spirit (:
