Lots of people have special responds based on their knowledge about dogs. Obviously, the sort of dog will decide how much and how regularly you should feed him. Small dogs need much less than a bigger dog, but the dissimilarity might not be as big as you might consider.

Lots of people have special responds based on their knowledge about dogs. Obviously, the sort of dog will decide how much and how regularly you should feed him. Small dogs need much less than a bigger dog, but the dissimilarity might not be as big as you might consider.

It also depends on the age your dog and his situation.

Puppies need a different diet than an adult dog, and older dogs also want unusual feeding. Puppies and senior dogs will advantage more from minor feedings spread out over the day before one or two large feedings. This will allow their stomachs to manage the food more simply and competently.

A aged dog can be supposed to eat less than an mature dog of his mass and breed. This narrates to the dog’s slowed metabolism and decreased regularity of bathroom trips. It’s intelligent to limit the amount of protein intake for old dogs as it is hard for them to digest and absorb the nutrient worth from protein.

Improving dogs need smaller, more normal feedings, too until they regain their power. If your dog has gone through operation, begin with foods that are straightforward to digest. Your vet might advise liquids for the first few days, depending on the kind of operation and your dog’s situation. Feed a ill dog 3-4 times a day in small quantity.

As a broad rule of thumb, strong mature dogs do well with two meals a day in the sunrise and twilight. Delights can be provided all through the day through teaching or only as a treat to make happy your necessitate to connection with your dog.

Make reminder of how much your dog gets all through the day to avoid over feeding. It’s trouble-free to do when there are more than a few family associates running your dog during his paces. Watch table scraps, too, as these can add to your dog’s whole caloric intake.

Pay concentration to any increase in mass that your dog may experience. This is a definite indication that you are overfeeding him, or given that the incorrect kind of food. In puppies, a round belly might point out that they have had enough food, but it can also be a indication that they have young insects. Do not rely on the look of the belly to decide whether your puppy is adequately fed.

It’s simple to weigh your puppy while he is little. Get on your toilet scales and make a note of your own weight. Dismount and pick up the puppy. Recover on the scales and take a new dimension. Analyze the dissimilarity between the two weights and that will be your puppy’s weight. Check this frequently to see if he illustrates much weight gain. Ensure with your vet or a dog book on your breed to realize what the right weight should be for your puppy at dissimilar ages.

Chili peppers of every different color, size, shape and taste are everywhere, and are the trademark to one of the planets most favored cuisines. In Mexico they grow over a hundred and sixty different varieties. Differing from popular belief, the vast majority of dishes in Mexican cuisine are not overly hot; they are lightly seasoned with mild chili peppers.

The heat level of chilies varies greatly from very mild to scorching hot. Cutting open and removing the membrane and seeds, where most of the capsaicin resides, takes heat out of the chili, as does roasting before using. Natural or pickled chilies are often hotter than the same varieties that have been roasted.

Poblano, jalapeno, and serrano peppers are some of the most widely used kinds. The poblano is the mildest, followed by the jalapeno. The serrano pepper can be extremely hot. The Serrano pepper is popular in cooked dishes, not to mention salsa and guacamole. This can be very hot and is not for everyone, only those who can deal with the high heat. Jalapeno peppers are probably the most popular of all chilies with a heat level that is right in the center of the spectrum, and the versatility that the chili provides.

Some basic safety procedures should be observed but, in general, prepping peppers for use is basic. To prevent exposure to the eyes and skin, it is prudent to wear gloves when touching hot peppers. Any work areas that come in contact with peppers like hands and utensils need to be thoroughly cleaned.

Roasting removes some of the heat out of the Chili and gives it rich flavor and texture. A bbq grill or open fire, under the broiler in the oven, or on the stovetop are perfect for roasting the chilies. The procedure is uncomplicated, and really worth the endeavor. As the exterior begins to char, the chilies will soften. The exterior on the other hand may become very charred. Immediately after roasting, the chilies are put in a paper or plastic bag, and the resulting steam generated assists the skin in easily falling off.

The roasted peppers are ready for use in your favorite dish. Dice finely or slice thin and employ as a garnish on your favorite salads and soups. Add to fresh homemade traditional and modern style salsas and dips. Pair with other veggies when creating tacos, burritos, enchiladas and fajitas dishes as well as your preferred Mexican sides and main courses. Include the flavorful roasted chili peppers into your every day culinary masterpieces. You are only limited to your creativity.

The journey of Mike and Karen Sliwa…

Walking away from the impact of civilization is impossible in this day and age. Climate change, war, fossil fuel use , along with the skyrocketing growth in technology all contribute to our consumer industrial culture. Going off the grid is possible but the grasp of our culture is far reaching. It’s especially difficult when one doesn’t have the tools to survive without the net of a fossil fuel economy. We hope to challenge the common perception of infinite growth on a finite planet. As a couple we have decided to stop chasing a pay check and instead chase a different carrot.

6/5/11

Well the trip to our first homestead was painless. We arrived around noon on June 2nd, 2011 and were greeted with open arms. Thanks to our hosts for wonderful conversation, food, and lodging. We couldn’t have found better hosts for our first experience.

Growing Organic Vegitables
By John D Frost

Have you noticed lately that the price of food is going up. The price of produce on the store shelves has gotten unreal. A single watermelon is over five dollars in some places. You also cannot know for certain just how fresh the produce is, and how long it has sat in a warehouse or refrigerated truck. You do not know what kind of chemicals that the produce was sprayed with, or who has handled it.

A lot of people are taking the initiative to grow their own organic produce in their back yards. It can be done if you stop and think before you start. You cannot just buy a pack of seeds, dig a few holes, drop in some seeds, and expect fresh vegetables to come flying out of the ground like magic. You must learn how and when to plant, where to plant, which seasons will allow the crops to bear fruit, and what types of plants will grow in your area. Also you must learn what types of predators your plants will face in the area you plan to make your organic vegetable garden.

If you go into this without thinking, you will end up with wilted plants that produce no fruit, or worse, no living plants at all. And if you think this through, research, plan ahead, you will have a good chance of having a beautiful garden that produces fresh, great tasting organic vegetables that you will be proud to put on your family dinner table each and every meal.

Mike Sliwa has been a part of CactusPix for about eleven years, and has been a major influence in the direction that we have taken with this company. Although we are not departing ways, thank goodness, he is and his lovely wife Karen are about to make an interesting and unique journey. We have also found a way to tie this adventure in with CactusPIx, but that’s another future topic. Now, read about his new direction and learn from his blog entry below…

We are retiring so we can travel. That’s the official story we generally tell people if we don’t feel like explaining the whole collapse of civilization spiel. Our close friends and those sympathetic to what we’re trying to accomplish get the real story. We know this might be considered to be the easy way out by some but we honestly don’t care at this point. We are leaving our high school teaching careers at the end of the school year to become WWOOFers. World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms is the route that best suits our current needs. Those needs are simply to learn self-sufficiency and sustainability. By working on different farms and homesteads throughout the world we hope to learn some valuable skills and enrich our lives by entering the world of farmers and experiencing the lives of these pioneering people.

Which Foods Are Better to Buy Organic?
By Caterina Christakos

There are many reasons for the organic food movement. For one thing, it’s about fighting back against decades of large farming companies overusing pesticides and other chemicals to grow their crops. It’s also about buying local, which supports the local economy while using less energy, and it’s about encouraging environmentally-friendly and ethical farming practices.

In light of all of these noble goals, there are some foods that are not particularly affected by organic food practices. For example, these fruits and vegetables are either highly resistant to pesticides or have a thick peel that protects them:

· Pineapple

· Asparagus

· Banana

· Avocado

· Kiwi

· Onions

· Mango

· Papaya

Foods that are more directly affected by non-organic food practices are the opposite. They don’t have hard shells, and they have a texture that makes them vulnerable to chemicals. These are just a few examples of foods that are better to buy organic.

1. Meat: Many types of large factory farms feed animals antibiotics and other chemicals to make them grow better and to make them resistant to disease. These chemicals inevitably make it into the meat, which in turn finds its way onto your dinner plate. Meanwhile, if you care about the happiness of the animals, organic certification requires for the animals to have some time outdoors every day-although in many cases, they’re still treated very poorly.

2. Coffee: With coffee, it is important for the beans to be grown organically, but there are also other designations to look for. For example, when a coffee has “Fair Trade” on the label, this means that the people in the country where the beans were harvested have been paid fair wages. And if you see “Shade Grown,” it means that no rainforest has been destroyed to grow the beans.

3. Some fruits: Peaches are first on the list of the Environmental Working Group’s list of types of food that have extremely high concentrations of chemicals. This is simply because of the soft texture of the fruit and the extremely thin skin, which lets the chemicals penetrate deeply into the fruit.

Other fruits that absorb a lot of pesticides: apples, strawberries, cherries, and grapes. Because grapes are prone to contamination, it’s also a good idea to get organic wine.

4. Leafy vegetables: In the vegetable family, leafy greens are particularly vulnerable to pesticides and other chemicals. Because they have a high risk of infestation, companies love to spray them with high doses of bug-killers. And no matter how many times the leaves are washed, you can never fully get rid of the chemicals. When you buy organic, you’ll get untreated leaves that can easily be washed.

5. Peppers: Peppers are like sponges when it comes to pesticides, so washing them does not get rid of the chemicals. It literally gets into the pepper, permeating the material. Other vegetables with similar issues are green beans, tomatoes, and celery. And although they’re not technically vegetables, non-organic potatoes tend to carry a double dose of poison, since they’re grown in the ground, where the elements can be rougher.
